Call for Applicants: ELSE National, BC, AB & SK
The Emerging Leaders for Solar Energy is holding their annual call for applicants to fill openings in their provincial and national executive boards. Below is information about the ELSE organization and general qualifications/commitments for potential candidates.
About ELSE
ELSE is a growing network of young professionals, students, and solar advocates (up to 35 yrs.), who are working together, and with solar industry stakeholders, to build a solar energy future for their members (Careers), communities (PV Projects), and all Canadians (Education).
Mission
Professional Development: To secure rewarding solar energy careers for young Canadians by providing them with solar energy skills and knowledge, professional development opportunities, and connections within industry and government.
Projects: To increase the development of solar energy in Canada by supporting and/or leading solar energy projects for a range of stakeholders including, but not limited to, science/research facilities, indigenous groups, schools/school boards, not-for-profit organizations and hospitals.
Education: To increase the level of public awareness and education related to solar energy through educational sessions and projects for schools, communities and indigenous audiences across Canada.

Required Qualifications

Additional Qualifications
– Knowledge and/or experience of solar industry
– Previous board or non-profit/association experience
– Relevant skills or experience for specific roles (Ex. Communications skills/experience for Communications Chair)
Note: All applicants should be under 35 for the full year of their first year

Time Commitment
– A two year commitment to the board is expected, though your specific role can change from year one to year two
– Approx. 2-6 hours per week including but not limited to in-person meetings, bi- weekly conference calls (other calls may be as required) and attendance at ELSE events.

SECRETARY - National Board

Description of Duties
In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of a Director on the ELSE/LÉÉS National Board, the Secretary has additional obligations that will be exercised with competence and diligence in the best interest of the corporation.
The primary task of the Secretary is to record and maintain the minutes of each board meeting. Meeting minutes are detailed reports that highlight the predetermined agenda of each conference as well as what actually took place. The Secretary will also be the custodian of corporate records, maintaining all corporate files in a manner compliant with organizational policies as well as any laws that regulate the industry. These documents may include the organization’s article of incorporation, bylaws and contact lists, as well as financial records.
All directors of the board will continue to be jointly and severally responsible, and therefore liable, for the administration of ELSE/LÉÉS. To this end, the Secretary will manage the security controls, such as who can access which files and what approvals are needed to do so. The Secretary of the executive board may also be required to file certain documents with the government from time to time.
